Read Mark 7:24-8:26 In today’s passage, we have a number of needs outlined for us, all but one of which our Lord Jesus met: the demon in the life, the impediment of speech, the unsatisfied hunger, the hardness of heart, and the blindness of eyes. Our Lord Jesus cast out the demon; he loosed the mute tongue; He fed the multitude; and He opened the eyes of the blind man. There is just one need that wasn’t met: hardness of heart. This is now the second time in a very short space of study that we’ve heard about hardened hearts. Indeed, the matter comes up again and again. Herod’s heart was hardened; so were the disciples’. Our Lord Jesus looked round about with anger on the crowd that surrounded Him one day, being grieved, it said, for the hardness of their hearts. There is no cure for the life that keeps God out. One more thought before we leave this message: Our Lord Jesus—in dealing with this man who had been blind—touched him and made him look up. And he was restored and saw every man clearly. What a beautiful picture of what God can do in giving you the proper perspective on other people. Small thought here. Our Lord Jesus can meet every need of the life except hardheartedness. Why? Because a hardened heart keeps God out. When God’s touch is on your life, you can see people as God sees them. You can bless them as God wants to bless them.
